What you need to know about hazardous and polluting substances storage?


Extract of the Journal Officiel** of March 3rd, 1998 (Modification of the Decree of March 25th, 1993)


Section 3 - Article 10

 

Article 10 - All storage of sensitive liquids creating either water pollution or land pollution, must have a capacity of retention with the volume being equal to the greater of the two following values:

 

  • 100% capacity of the greatest reservoir
  • 50% capacity of the associated reservoirs

This disposition is not applicable to treatment basins of residual water.

 

For recipient storage with a unitary capacity less than or equal to 250 liters, the retained capacity must be less or equal, if the following conditions exist:

 

  • the liquid is inflammable, with the exception of lubricants, 50% of total capacity encased
  • 20 % of the total capacity is encased
  • 800 liters minimum or equal to the total capacity or less than 600 liters

 

The retention capacity must be waterproof for the products that it will be containing and must resist physical and chemical fluids. This is the same with sealing of the liquids which must maintain its seal.
